Bikram Challenge: Day 30

Made it 30 whole days without a break. I am not gonna lie, the past 4 days have been brutal! To make things more exciting, my sinus congestion has returned and I have tremendous pressure in my nose and head region. Each time I bend forward I can hear the pressure squishing around- Yum! Nonetheless, I've made it half way and I have 30 more days to go. It should be downhill from now, right?

Weekend Bliss: Part Deux

Another wonderfully beautiful day in Austin. Bikram kicked my ass, so instead of touring the town for photo-ops, we stayed in and enjoyed the sunshine- backyard style. Hope your weekend was full of bliss!

Playing in the sun with shadows

The Sunshine came in through the window. It felt nice.

Weekend Bliss

Saturday was a beautiful day, so we took the dog and camera out for a spin. We found some graffiti, buildings, and lots of light. We landed on 2nd St., where the new W Austin has made a home. Didn't do much exploring indoors but had a blast playing with the sun. Maybe a little too much W action went on here...

Happy Weekend!

Saturday Sunlight at Home

After Bikram and wonderful Whole Foods lunch, I enjoyed the beautiful weather in my back yard. The sun was shining in all the right places! Glad to be able to enjoy it while it lasts.

DIY Hand Made Vases

For my wedding I made these vintage inspired vases. They currently add a personalized detail to everyday life and brighten up every room of the house! It encourages me to keep fresh flowers around and they were so easy to make. That's right ladies and gents, "She's Crafty!"

Materials required:
-Any glass vase (I got mine at hobby lobby for $3 each.)
-Old Magazines, sheet music, vintage paper or ads  (I googled vintage fashion ads and printed them creamy rustic paper.) You could even use family pictures or your own pictures if you print them on paper that will bend easily.
-Matte Modge Podge
-Medium sized paint brush

1. Begin by cutting or tearing the paper into small pieces. If you like particular details make sure not to cut those images or words.
2. Dip your brush into modge podge and paint the pieces of paper onto the vase in the desired areas.
3. Continue until entire vase is covered with your design.
4. The glue will eventually dry clear.
5. You will need smaller pieces for the curvier surfaces and more pressure with glue and brush.
6. Let dry for 30 minutes and you have a beautiful and original vase!
7. I added wraphia and yellow ribbon for a special touch.

Bikram Chalenge: Day 23-26

This week has been exhausting. My joints hurt and my lower back is extremely sore. I am convinced these are the days when it starts to get tough- to say the least!

Day 23 & 24:
Still tired from my birthday weekend. I am 29 now, I need more time to rest! You'd think I'd be used to the extreme heat by now. I am convinced the room was at least 109 degrees. I swear it was way hotter than usual. I absolutely hate the room, the teacher, my towel, and everyone around me when its so hot!

Day 25: I cried. Yes, I literally shed tears during Savasana. I cried like a baby and sweated like a pig. I am officially exhausted; Mentally and physically.

Day 26: I was not about to push myself after my tearful session. Deep breaths were my friend. I survived.

Lesson Learned: I am tired and old!

New Lens: Tokina 11-16mm

This past summer my friend Paul Schuster from austinmodhouse.com recommended the Tokina 11-16mm, when I was searching for an ultra wide and low light lens. I wanted a super cool lens for my month-long European Honeymoon. I ended up renting a Nikon 14mm from borrowlenses.com for this Europe trip; I absolutely fell in love with it! It was sharp, wide, simply awesome, and unfortunately, out of my budget to own.  The Tokina 11-16mm seemed to fit my bill after much research.  My hubby pull the trigger and I received my new lens this weekend for my birthday!

I haven't done much shooting with it yet, but so far I like it. My only concern is that I will be using it to shoot some events for SXSW and my D40 body does not allow AF. I usually never use the AF feature- even when it is available- but I am afraid with all the movement of bands I will have to shoot twice the shots! I guess I just have to practice and perfect my form with the tools I have. I will also have the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 available for SXSW, so I should be safely covered.

Thank you Matt for all the love!

Birthday Fiesta

Its true what they say: The older you get, the harder the birthdays. My youth is flying by and soon I'll be grey, grumpy, and cold (tear.) I am already freezing all the time, so the other two should be taking over  soon. A friend's mom did give me the best advice: Be 29 for the next 10 years! Lets give this idea a spin- Or maybe, I'll stop counting next year and forever be 30! I mean, I don't look a day over 27- right?

It was really nice to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday. It never seems to land on weekend anymore, so this birthday was extra special. It was also the first birthday I devoted myself to 90 minutes of workout time. My Bikram challenge continued, even on my birthday- and it felt great. The sun was out. I shopped till I dropped. Pinned the tail on the donkey. Received great gifts. Ate cake. Wore a mustache and danced the night away!

Thank you to my family and friends for making the getting older situation a happy time. The entire evening was enhanced by my wonderfully patient husband, Matt. ( You can see his creative side livehappilyevermatt.blogspot.com or his soft side here.) He spoils me and I love it! Thanks boo bear
This year is gonna be a good one. Cheers!

Best gift was my new wide angle lens. Can't wait to take that baby out for a spin.

Bikram Challenge: Day 15-22

I have not missed a single day! Yes, I am tooting my own horn- toot, toot! I've made it to class hungover, tired, sick, congested, coughing, you name it. It's become my personal little addiction; I guess its the best addiction one could have. The biggest struggle now is trying to keep enough bikram clothes clean. For some reason, I can't seem to get my towels to smell super clean anymore! That's kinda disgusting, right? I know, I think I need to soak them in some kind of an oil, or something. I can't handle it much longer.  I sweat so much my clothes are dripping wet. I am so gross! Next option is just to buy new towels or start to rent them from yoga groove. They have a laundry service I am seriously considering.
These are my biggest challenges these days, not the actual torture of the heated hell room!

Challenge: Day 10-14; Girl Talk Show

Two weeks of bikram without missing a day! My back bend is getting to be pretty awesome.

Last night the gang and I had a dance party USA at the Girl Talk show. Many double vodka sodas later and a mean hangover, it was not easy making it to the 4:30 class today. Yup, hangovers last all day now that I am "mature" not old, but "mature." I dragged myself out of my comatose state and had a wonderful bikram session. I felt rejuvenated and should do bikram all the time after a full day of partying and drinking!
We also had a major workout during a two hour dance session with girl talk. Super fun Show!

Challenge: Day 6-9 "Yoga Girl"

Happy to report that I've completed 9 days in a row. Yea! Usually, I take one or two days off during the week, but now my joints and muscles are more receptive. I am able to push through the flexible postures. My legs still shake every day- but mentally, I am stronger.

Day 6 & 7: Battling the worst cedar allergy attack ever experienced in my life. Eyes are itching so intensely, I desperately want to pull them out my sockets. The sneezing and blowing of the nose is unbearable. The only time I am free of allergies has been during the 90 minutes of yoga. For this, I thank you Bikram. If only for 90 minutes, I could breathe.

Day 8 & 9: Allergies have evolved into serious sinus pressure and a congested cough. I apologize to the people next to my mat, as I coughed and blew my nose throughout class. How embarrassing and annoying! But I can't stop. Gotta keep going.

Lessons Learned:
Heat = breathing during allergies.
If your gonna cough it out. Set up camp next to the wall.

Challenge: Day 4 & Day 5

Day 4:
I literally died!! I am I skinnier yet? Retraction: I feel great(sarcastic smile!) But, my face was sooo hot during the 90 minute hell session today, my pores and brain cells were burning out. Mentally I gave up. I skipped pose 18 and 19: Poorna-Salabhasana (Full Locust Pose) and  Dhanurasana (Bow Pose.) I just laid and breathed. My mind was at home, on my couch. I stuck through it.

Day  5:
New teacher was really good. Room was jammed packed. Nonetheless, I did all poses and felt great all the way.

Lesson Learned: A torturous day is almost always followed by an energizing one.
